The Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce was founded by Mayor J. Lieven and a committee of business people in 1933. Chamber membership has grown from 50 members in the 1920's to over 250 members today. The mission of The Chamber is "to promote, support and guide the business and civic communities in the Hartford Area to nurture positive business and community growth".

The Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce is managed by a twelve member Board of Directors, comprised of a cross section of the business community. The Board employs an Executive Director who has the responsibility for Chamber operations with the assistance of additional staff, volunteers and The Ambassadors Club. The Ambassadors Club is a prestigious public relations and goodwill organization dedicated to the greater Hartford Area Business Community. Ambassadors serve as the official public relations arm of the Chamber.

The strength of the Chamber lies in the commitment and involvement of its members. Each of the Chamber's committees or activities has Board and Ambassador members involved, but is made up of general members as well. Some of the many programs sponsored by The Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce are: The Annual Dinner, The Home, Sport and Leisure Show, The Ambassador Golf Outing, Membership Development and Retention, After Hours, Ribbon Cuttings, the Pepsi Ambassador Key Hunt and Hartford Family Fest Balloon & Air Show.

Services that are available to our members include: business referrals, networking opportunities, bulk rate mailing services, monthly newsletter, group health insurance, discounted long distance phone services, legislative forums, economic development activities and professional seminars.
